Preseason Week 1: Packers vs Patriots, Stock Report

Final Score: Packers 22-11

Stock up: 2015 Packers Rookie Class

Even though 1st round rookie CB Damorius Randall didn’t play, most of the rookies looked really good. Undrafted rookie CB Ladarius Gunter showed why people are excited, intercepting QB Jimmy Garoppolo and playing good coverage. 2nd round rookie CB Quintin Rollins almost had an interception and had several pass breakups. 3rd round rookie WR Ty Montgomery caught 2 passes for 28 yards. 4th round rookie MLB Jake Ryan had 6 tackles, 2 for loss and a sack. 5th round QB Brett Hundley completed 4 out 6 passes with a TD. 6th round TE Kennard Backman caught 2 passes for 10 yards.

Stock down: FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

While he didn’t play horribly, Clinton-Dix whiffed a tackle which Patriots RB Jonas Gray scored a long touchdown. Clinton-Dix looked lost in coverage as well. Nothing overly concerning.

Stock up: WR Jeff Janis

For a guy who didn’t impress in training camp, Jeff Janis looked pretty good last night. Janis caught 2 passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. Janis beat the jam of Patriots CB Logan Ryan (Who is expected to replace CB Darrelle Revis) for a Jordy Nelson style catch. Hopefully Janis will stay consistent.

Stock down: LT David Bakhtiari

For a guy who had a good season, Bakhtiari struggled last night. He was beat a couple times and allowed a sack from Patriots 4th round rookie DE Trey Flowers. That’s unexceptable for a veteran to beat by a rookie.

Stock up: DE Datone Jones

Datone Jones showed signs of life, after disappointing last year and having a one game suspension, Datone Jones bounced back for 2 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. If he can break out this year, he could be the missing piece for the defensive line.

Other observations
– QB Scott Tolzein looked impressive last night, which is very encouraging.
– TE Andrew Quarless and WR Davante Adams were targeted quite a bit, but both dropped easy catches.
– DE Khyri Thornton had a pressure, but other then that, seems like a lost cause.
– OLB Jayrone Elliot played really well, as did OLB Andy Mulumba, OLB Adrian Hubbard and MLB Carl Bradfield.
